About the BBC Nigeria 2022 Journalist, GIST Nigeria.
Gist Nigeria is the first-ever co-production between BBC Africa and a dynamic team that produces stories that are being talked about for the generation that grew up with social media. Gist Nigeria provides in-depth reporting that focuses on the narratives behind the news, its impact, and the audience's reaction to it. It offers analysis, studio discussions, and in-depth interviews on the most important issues facing Nigerians and West Africans today. A number of the BBC's African services contribute their reporting to the program, including their stories. Joining our creative and innovative team in Lagos would be a great opportunity for a journalist who can demonstrate strong reporting and presentation skills. This position is available immediately.
Requirements for This Scholarship :
- Role Responsibility: As a Journalist (Reporter / Presenter), your responsibility will be to deliver timely, expert, and authoritative coverage of news and current affairs events for our flagship show on several platforms, including television, digital, and online. You will report to the Editor of Gist Nigeria. You will be responsible for supplying content in fluent English that conforms to broadcast standards. We anticipate that you will report and deliver on news and current events in a timely way that is both interesting and appropriate for the audience that we have in mind.
- Are you the right candidate? The ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate prior experience working in a journalistic capacity that is relevant to the position, along with having an excellent understanding of news that is appealing to an audience in Nigeria. Knowledge in one or more of Nigeria's primary languages (Hausa, Pidgin, Yoruba, or Igbo), as well as a broadcast-level of written and spoken English, is a clear advantage. Both written and spoken English at a level suitable for broadcasting is required. You will have significant experience working across several channels, including but not limited to television, digital media, and social media. You will have a comprehensive awareness of Nigerian history, politics, social and cultural concerns, as well as news and stories linked to Nigeria and the area of West Africa. In addition, you will have an in-depth knowledge of the region of West Africa. It is essential to have a comprehensive awareness of the most recent trends in storytelling. In addition to this, you will have an outstanding presence on-screen, a commanding voice while speaking into a microphone, and the ability to interact successfully with the audience in question. It is very necessary to have a proven track record of accuracy, impartiality, and strong editorial judgment.
